A good start, JMD. Tenderness is fine for an opener, but DL readers want ACTION. How about jumping forward in time and showing Mommy and Daddy teaching Little Rain how to chill stickies? Using a live one for target practice, of course. "No, honey, you can't kill them with knives," says Mommy. "But why, Mommy? Don't they have hearts and lungs and livers like us?" "Rain," Ryan says, "do like Mommy says and use your hand blaster. Just like we taught you: two in the chest, one in the head." "But I want to stab it, Daddy. Why can't I stab it?" "Because stabbing won't chill it, Honey," Krysty says. "But why, Mommy, why?" "Because it won't work." "But why?" "Because LJ said so!" Ryan replies. "Now, put that pistol to its radblasted head and pull the trigger!"  |

Much better. It's all about exploding stickies. Two minor points: we need a bit of dialogue at the end. You know, Mommy and Daddy telling Rain great job, or debriefing her on the killshot. Maybe they go "out" for dinner to celebrate? Get some rat-on-a-stick from a ville street vendor? Also, the Hi-Power is going to kick like a mule in the hands of a five-year-old. For "realism's sake," we need to see Rain fighting to control the recoil. One more thing, when GE buys this book from you, do I get a cut? (Developmental Editing is never free.) Say a cool ten percent off the top? That would come to about $1.98 American. Money order or Paypal, please.  |

only problems are Ryan and Krysty don't kill for the sake of killing nor would they tie a sticky, even though it is just a sticky, to a chair to just to let their kid shoot it. a sticky would do that to a norm meaning torture or kill just to kill. target practice i could see them doing with their kid at actual targets. but sorry, not at living things but rest is good love the name and that first child together is a girl |

I have to give Author AP props for knowing his shit when it come to kill tactics.Something I was taught by someone I won't mention who was recently banned is something AP described involving a SAS and other special forces tactic of the double tap to the chest and one to the head (mainly if using a 9mm weapon).
It is called "Mozambique Style".And he is also right,a 9mm pistol while not being hard for me or you to handle would be impossible for a little girl.LOL!

Just that a 5 yr old girl could most likely not,I don't care if it's Ryan's or Jesus Christ himself's daughter.
Alot of women,particularly cops learn to use the 9mm and the way more difficult to handle .40 caliber.
You can disagree bro,it's a free country, but I have been firing 9MM guns for 10 yrs and I stick by what I said that no little girl is gonna be able to handle a 9MM pistol.

i actually hinted in my story that Dean was dead..so i can't go back on that....i killed off some of the main characters in my writing like Mildred and Jac and Dean so i could make up my own new peeps and not piss off Golden Eagle too much  |

I know this is gonna sound crazy JMD,but I often fantasize that I am a new member of Ryan's gang carrying the weapons of my choice and roaming Death Lands.
I do this because as scary a world as Death Lands is it is also very simple.You just have to stay alive.
My life(and everyones)is far more complicated and "real"life issues like being poor and home foreclosures and career failure scare me alot more than Stickies or Cold Hearts.

heh...too much life imitating art for you bro! lol! it's all good....i didn't get a chance to write any this weekend....had baby duty..but i have the next 2 chapters at least in my head...someone told me to back off on releasing all i have written so no one could jump in and steal the story..i don't think that would happen..but if i want this to be a whole book i do have to think about it...so i may get ahead and write a bunch and set out a paragraph or 2 here and there...and anyone who wants the bigger story can e-mail me direct and sign a confidentiality agreement! hehehe! we'll see...i'm glad people dig it..has been fun to come up with the story lines and include people who have a love as deep as i do for the story...

Wow that's a hard one.I own a Gerber Gator Machete.It has a blackened blade(except the edges)and a serrated back.It is 17 3/4 inches long(perhaps too much like Ryan's Panga,but a smaller blade would not be much use against Ryan with the Panga?)
I have a Shrade Extreme II survival(7 inches)a smaller Remington tac folder,and a Frost cutlery double edged bootknife.
I think the Gator Machete would make for the fairest fight,but I understand if you think it is too much like Ryan's?
I like The Bekker BK 9 tactical fighting bowie or any Sog knife(preferably the largest one,The Sog Tiger Shark?

well it is true that more and more VERY YOUNG women are doing their best to look much older....gotta check ID before you even talk to some people!!...i'm blessed and cursed at the same time..the Majority of the people I work with are women, all of legal age, and for better or worse, i work with some serious hotties..it sucks honestly..i'm the only guy in my department, and there are at least 4 women out of the 9 i work with that are on the mega hottie list...it's distracting...and when summer hits they ALL wear clothes to show off their "ahem" assetts" - then they come lean over my desk to ask advice...it's bad...but what can i do? write about it! lol! well..not really....but it is fun to dream... Any chance you and I can head out in the next day or two in your wag and do a reese? Heard rumor of a new settlement about 15 miles form here. Curious about it.” “Got any gas for my wag we can use that is good quality?” Ryan asked. “Yeah we do, traded for some a few months back, can fill your tank in payment for the ride and the protection if that works.” “Sure, good deal to me, easier to make a run when you got full tanks than worrying about running out.” “Deal” the Barron said. “We’ll talk tomorrow about it?” Ryan asked. “Sure can, I’ll be free after morning drills” Houston said. “See you then.” With that, Ryan and Krysty and Rain and Kris walked back outside and went over to Sonny’s supply shack. Sonny had seen them come in and his door was open wide at their approach.
Sonny came out wiping his hands off with a rag and shook Ryan’s hands. “Glad to see you. No one brings better trade goods than you folks. Come on in!” The quartet came inside and looked around. As usual the place was an organized mess. At least similar items were all grouped together. “Krysty and I need some more seeds or small plants if you have them for our garden. Bastard rabbits got to our stuff. And maybe some type of fencing/barrier to keep the critters out?” “Have you set out snares to trap the little fuckers?” Sonny asked. “Yeah, but the rope we have also is old and they are too mean and end up getting out of it” Ryan hissed, clearly pissed.”Well I got something that might interest you instead of rope.” Sonny went to the back and uncovered a small box and brought it out. What it was turned out to be a small game trap. It looked to have been made recently, but expertly. “Dan made a few of these. Think he traded for one made before skydark that was in bad shape. Got some metal and wire and made like 6 of these. We have 4 out in the woods that we check and the bastard things work like a charm if nothing bigger gets the scent of the trapped animal! We keep 2 as spares but all 4 we have, have worked great and Dan said he could make more. If you got something good to trade I can let one go to solve your rabbit problem” “Damm, this thing is perfect!” Ryan blurted. The trap was made of scavenged metal wire and frame, had 2 compartments and a hinged door. A flat spring held the door open, and a length of tough thin wire led to the trap’s main compartment. The animal had to jump up and then down into the compartment to get the treat inside. When the animal jumped down onto the little ledge it had to stand on, it pulled on the metal wire guide and snapped the door shut. The door had a spring-loaded clasp that hit a retaining metal bar welded on the front. Making it impossible to force open from the inside. The animal could then be killed and removed at will. Ryan showed the trap to Krysty and she whistled. “Damm fine work. Dan knows what the hell he is doing and his craftsmanship is close to J.B.’s” Sonny laughed. “You guys should see when J.B. comes to town. He disappears into Dan’s workshop and doesn’t come out for 3 days. At the end they have some new idea or contraption that makes us all wonder where they get them from or how the fuck they figured it out. Last time J.B. was here, he and Dan worked on the distillery for 3 nights straight. When they were done they made it possible to get some serious high octane alcohol to be produced in half the time. Dan is working on flamethrowers now to shoot the stuff 100 feet to repel attackers. Cheaper and easier than wasting brass. J.B. Should actually be here next week, he is working on the hand pump system so any feeb can use it and be effective.” Ryan was impressed. A ville with a sustainable flamethrower system would be a very tough nut to crack. And if he knew J.B. and Dan well enough he was sure they’d find a way to gel the alcohol and make it stuck to stuff as well. A double bastard hard way to die.
“I definitely want the trap and some spare rope and seeds.” Will a good condition blaster and some brass be enough to pay for it?” Ryan asked. “Sonny shook his head affirmative. “Any blaster you got will be sure to be worth half my store. Whatcha got?” Ryan took off his pack and rummaged around in the side pocket till he found the blaster. He pulled out a wrapped package and held out a Smith & Wesson Model 36 revolver. It was a standard model made for decades by the company. It was a 3 inch barrel, blued by J.B. obviously, and was chambered in .357. The gun also could take .38 special ammo, and in a pinch shoot off 9mm rounds, but the cases would jam eventually. It was one of the better all around blasters you could have in deathlands. Almost anyone could or would have ammo for it. And it was small enough to carry comfortably and big enough to take out some coldheart easily. Ryan produced a box of .38 special ammo for it as well. Brand new by the looks of it. Government issue 130 years ago. “Fuck me Ryan, where do you guys come up with all this shit? You gotta have a cache somewhere that no one knows about. Fuck, I’d give my left nut to see it! How about it? One day you take me there and blindfold my ass so I don’t know where it is and just let me look around?” Ryan and Krysty and Rain smirked. “Can’t do it friend” Ryan laughed out. “Why the fuck not? Sonny retorted. “Because, if you saw some of the shit we had, a little old .38 blaster would not do as a good trade any longer, you would know this is the bottom of the barrel for us!” Sonny looked at them disbelieving, but then looked over Ryan’s shoulder at the wag they drove up in and the grenade launcher and realized he was right. If he saw a space filled with wags and artillery and thousands of rapidfires he would ask for more in trade every time. Greed was not really a part of his personality, but the though of crates of hardcore ordinance sitting in his possession might change that. Sonny sighed in resignation and took the blaster and ammo. He fetched about 50 feet of good rope and a bag of seeds for tomatoes and lettuce he had from last years harvest. For him it was still a good trade but thoughts of naked women in his APC that Ryan sold him danced in his head.

just for you Chris Last contribution before the weekend.. After their trade was done, the companions went back outside and walked over to the villes rooming house to setup Ryan and Krysty for a few nights, and give them time to visit. They traded some more brass for 3 nights in one of the bigger rooms. Hot water was piped in from a roof cistern, and oil lamps were provided. The door had a good solid lock on it and once again J.B.’s handiwork was evident. They got settled and had some time to sit and chat. Kris had to go off and report for his sec shift and promised to stop by later. He left the room with a kiss on Rain’s cheek and a stern look from Ryan at his back. “So, what is that all about?” Ryan accused of Rain. She sighed, slumped back in her chair and looked him squarely in the eye. “He is the nicest and most kind person I have ever met, and has a real good fighting spirit. He has taught me some good blade moves. And besides, he is real cute! I love him and he is completely loyal to me. And before you get all suspicious, it took 2 months for him to admit he liked me and I had to kiss him 1st!” “Ryan’s face turned beat red at the flurry of her rant, and felt even slightly embarrassed at his thoughts about this situation. To know his daughter took advantage of Kris and not the other way around was surprising, but not out of character. She saw something she wanted and went after it, as he would have. But the thought of his precious daughter and this boy was making him overprotective. “Don’t you think he was cool and slow about it to trick you? All men want the same thing, a good blaster and a roll with a hot woman. No difference now or 1000 years ago.” “Dad. I know what I am doing. I would not have let him near me if all I thought he wanted was my body. We talk all the time, he protects me, likes me for who I am as well as what I look like. We are comfortable around each other and he has never shown anything but kindness and interest in me. Usually when I meet someone they want to hear about you and mom. But with him he only wants to talk about me and us, and his dreams for the future. He is kind and sincere, I can smell bullshit a mile away.” Krysty let out a whoosh of air from her lips. “All we want is your happiness and well being. Your dad and I trust you, but you know we always want you to be safe. If this boy makes you happy, then we can accept it, in time. For us you will always be the little 5 year old that started asking about blasters and how you would never leave us. It’s hard for us. We’ll give him a fair shake, and know you will make the right decisions. I was younger than you when I was with the 1st man I cared for. So I have nothing to say for that. Be careful, be safe, and watch out for him if you can. Your dad and I have a bond no one can break, and we wish you that kind of love too. If you have found it in this boy then it will only make you stronger.” “I have mom. He hasn’t made any false promises like other men have in the past, no grand schemes or thoughts of being a Barron and all that. He has looked after me and I can see it in his eyes and his actions he truly cares for me and my well being” “Ok good, I’ll talk to him and see what he wants to say to me and then I’ll let you know what I think. For now I’ll trust your judgment, but it’s hard for me to see you giving your attention to anyone. Is that understandable? “Ryan asked. “Oh of course daddy! I wouldn’t have it any other way!” And Rain walked over and gave her dad a hug. “I have to go prepare for classes tomorrow, so I’ll see you later for dinner?” “Sure, we’ll meet you then.” Ryan said. Rain left and Ryan and Krysty were left alone in the room. “She has turned into some woman eh lover?” Krysty asked. “Yeah, I just didn’t think she would grow up so fast is all. The world waits for no one I guess” Ryan sighed. Rain had gone back to her room and when she got there felt bad for not inviting them over to see it. Not that her room was much and all. And she did have school work to do. She realized how much she had missed her parents but also how much she had grown while she was here. A ville person who commanded a lot of respect, and her studies were going well. Too well almost. She knew more than most of the other students because her parents had educated her as best as they could. Most of the basic language classes she had no trouble with of course. And her combat stuff was of course 2nd nature. It was the other classes she truly loved. Working on machines and learning skills like building wooden structures, maintaining the heavy weapons of the ville, and her frequent field trips to Dan’s shop to learn how to build the stuff the ville needed really got her attention. She felt as her time at the Brody school was benefiting her, but was looking and hoping for more. The term was about 2/3’rds over. Every student either left after the warm season to go help at their homes or to go seek warmer places during the winter. Her parents had picked where they lived carefully. It was southern enough to be warm in the winter months and not see too much snow. But not be bastard hot in the summer. J.B. had said they were in the former state of Kentucky. The soil was fertile and some in-land lakes had formed to give them fresh water close by. The Appalachian’s shielded them from any real bad Lantic storms, and because they were not near any of the bigger cities they nuclear strikes hadn’t come very close, so there were no real bad hellzones. The area made it a good place also for the redoubts, and that was why they had several near them and to the school. Being near enough to the middle of the former US had put them on the trade routes but out of the way enough to be left alone. Rain had seen a good part of deathlands in her time and wanted to see more. And when her studies weren’t really taxing her, her mind wandered to the places her parents talked about. She wanted to travel and see how the land was recovering. By herself, a trip was really out of the question. With no backup, or no one to take a watch at night, she was too exposed to attack and was defenseless when she had to sleep. But with Kris now in her life, her thoughts wandered to travels outside of where she had been. She trusted him, and had been thinking for a while about asking if he wanted to head out for an extended time with her. With her parents here she would ask them what they thought. She knew the answer; they’d be very worried. But she was really starting to be her own woman now and could do what she wanted. The rebellious side of being a Cawdor was coming out, and it was forceful! She turned her attention back to her work and planned to broach the subject later. |

heh..cool...and a little more for you...
Kris was having a worse time. All the guys on his sec watch were ridding him about Rain’s dad being here. “Kris the nutless freak!” they had all taken up the chant when he came on duty. No one believed he was gonna escape Ryan’s wrath at him fucking his daughter. All the guys were jealous of course. Rain was beautiful and a good fighter and she gained their respect fast. But all left her alone with Kris being with her. They liked him and none was better than him with a blade, all feared a knife in the ribs if they made him mad. But no one was fiercer then Ryan. The fact his wag could level the whole town in minutes was enough. So his watch that night was full of taunts. “Can you still piss right if you have no nuts?” “You’d need smaller pants to be made if your sack isn’t there anymore?” Even the gaudy’s won’t touch you if your balls are spiked to the wall!” Think Ryan keeps your stones in a bag after he cuts them off? Kinda like a Trophy?” It continued non-stop for 3 hours. Finally he got tired of it. He was the boss on this watch. He calmly pulled out his Boker switchblade and began methodically sharpening the blade on a stone he had. The action was enough to signal the end of the jibes he was getting. The wicked blade was only 3 inches long, but it was so bastard sharp he could shave with it. Or kill a man with a quick flick of the wrist along the throat. They also knew he could throw it better than anyone. His annoyance didn’t go away when the other sec all left him alone, but his apprehension at Ryan’s presence hadn’t gone away. No matter what the challenge he knew Ryan was probably the most battle hardened man still alive today. “Fireblast!” he swore as he lost his concentration and cut his finger on the blade. Realizing he was afraid of a man for the 1st time in his life. It didn’t sit well with him. But he was determined to make Ryan like and respect him. The fact he was still in one piece helped a little. He sighed and looked out over the darkening sky and knew a storm was coming. Hopefully it wouldn’t be too bad that night.
Around the same time Rain had finished up her work and put it in Elaine’s box for review. It was a simple set of math problems that she had to work out. Math was tough but she knew it had applications for almost any kind of life situation. So she did it happily even though other students grumbled. She had been interrupted many times while working but the other kids wanting to ask about her mom and dad showing up and questions about their wag. She got similar ribbing to Kris, but about him. “Think your dad is gonna kill him or give him more scars?” Will he want to fight Kris to see if he is good or not?” “Can I take a ride in their wag?” She had to stop all the visitors by closing her door and locking it and turning down her lamp to low so the light didn’t shine under the door. The other kids left her alone after that, but she too was wondering about the meeting between her dad and Kris the next day. She sighed and used one of Doc’s favorite expressions...”By the Three Kennedy’s! I hope they don’t come back all messed up!”
Dinner that night was a good time for all. The eating house had a lot of decent sized tables and plenty of places for people to sit and eat. It was also the impromptu meeting hall of the town. The Barron, his wife, 2 sec guards, Ryan, Krysty and Rain all sat down to dinner. Other ville folk were there as well, including Sonny and Dan and other people whose duties allowed them to eat at this time. The kitchen had prepared some wild rabbit that had fresh salt and some pepper and some wild mint mixed in. Also being served was warm “shine” bread. The baker mixed in some of their local shine in the batter, the heat from the dutch oven cooked off the alcohol but left a sweet wild berry flavor to the bread. They even had some butter that was churned in the mill. A soup with some vegetables was also served, the broth filtered water with a chicken carcass cooked in it with more salt for flavor. The food was all served warm by the staff in the kitchen, all were young men and women who liked their jobs and brought food requests out quickly. The shine made in the ville was also in abundance, but Houston had strict rules for consumption of that in the eating house. He wanted no drunken fights taking place. Krysty and Ryan were used to eating well at their ranch, but visiting this ville was always a joy. They filled their bellies and remarked how they had never eaten better in deathlands. The cook, a thin man named Rogers was one of the prized members of Houston’s community. He couldn’t hold a blade or shoot worth a damm, but his cooking gave him a status that could never be challenged. And Houston gave him whatever he wanted in exchange for his terrific cooking. And he got days off out of the hot kitchen with recipies laid out for the other kitchen staff to follow in his absence. “Barron, I don’t care about your shine or your armory or your jack. But this food is the best anywhere, and is the reason we always look forward to coming here” Ryan stated loudly. It was a compliment that the Barron took very well and his smile showed it. “We do our best, Rogers is the real secret, and I wouldn’t trade him for all the jack in deathlands.” “As well you shouldn’t. Making food taste this good is a lost skill for sure.” Krysty said. She and Ryan both leaned back in their chairs satiated from the hearty meal. And when the staff brought out some blueberry pie as a desert. They had to pass. Ryan let out a big belch and Krysty elbowed him in the ribs. “Ouch! What did you do that for?” Ryan asked. “Mind your manners! Our Daughter is present!” Krysty scolded. “Ma’am, it is ok, it is a compliment to Rogers that his food is liked and well received.” Houston advised. Ryan smirked at Krysty and she elbowed him in the ribs again. This caused Rain to almost spit out her soup onto the table as she laughed. She smiled and thought to herself how nice this was, the time with her parents in safety and eating great food like this. But she missed Kris. His sec duty wasn’t scheduled to end for another few hours, and by that time she would be asleep. She wasn’t going to risk having him come over and spend the night with her while her parents were around. Too much disrespect she thought for her dad to handle.

I would have liked to have read Dan's posts unedited (the "unplugged" version?) and in keeping with the flavor of the books some semi-graphic sex would not be out of character. I have been kicking around a DL novel idea myself for some time. And although I am a published author (FRPG, SciFi RPG, and SASS manuals) I doubt that I would ever get it published. Seems GE has a stable of authors that they assign books to write.
I never did get that either. If you have cable watch HBO Generation Kill - it is an interesting look at soldiers today. Some of the assumptions seem wrong to me but the show has an interesting premise.

i'll add a few more paragraphs today - but then i may be done for the week..depends on my work schedule...the next section after this was the "sex" section..so i have to do some major editing to make it ok to post here...

I mean he has slapped me from time to time when I have been mean to him. But I deserved it.” “Maybe not” Krysty responded. “But Kris wouldn’t have seen daybreak for sure.” Your dad would have made his death very slow and very painful.” Rain though her mom was joking, but the look in her eyes told her otherwise. She knew her dad as a firm but kind man to her. But she had seen what he was capable of a few times. And had heard about his exploits many times and the level he was willing to go to defending his loved ones. And she knew her mom was right. “Damm, I don’t want him mad at Kris. It was both of our idea to get involved and we both wanted each other. Sex is fun and I like it!” “Woah!” Krysty almost yelled. “Just casue I’m your mom and understand does NOT mean I want to hear about it ok? Your life is your own, but please don’t share! It is tough for me too! You are the little 8lb baby I birthed so long ago, smiling and laughing at our faces. It’s hard to think of you this way for me as well. Be careful. I taught you all I know about your body and when to do stuff because I knew this day would come. But for all of our sakes, please keep that to yourself!” Rain put her head down and knew she had made a mistake with her mom. She was always the one to champion here to her dad, and defend her actions. She needed her on her side to keep her dad from going into a homicidal fury. “Sorry mom” she whispered. “I love him and I just wanted to share with you. “I know” Krysty replied. “Talk about the good everyday stuff, but your private life is just that. Private. Enjoy being young and happy. The world is a cruel place still, and I’m afraid of something happening to him and you not being prepared to deal with it. It is too painful to prepare for. Rain had never though of losing Kris. But she knew anything could happen in deathlands. He had almost been bitten by a mutie rattler a few weeks back. They laughed about it at the time. But if he had been bitten he would have died for sure. That hit her hard. And she knew she had to cherish her time with him but steel herself in case of the worst case. “Ok mom, I’ll think about it.” “Good, well I’ll go see to your father and try to get him to sleep. In the morning we’ll start fresh and have some time together while the boys go play.” “Ok mom, thanks.” Rain hugged her mom again and then watched as she too walked to the rooming house. Rain was lost in her thoughts about Kris and what it would mean to her if he got chilled somehow. She wanted to hug him and kiss him right then but he was on sec duty. She lay down in her bed and drifted off to a restless sleep dreaming of giant snakes eating her man.

there will be more action from here on out - i thought of this book as kind of a stand alone one..so had to spend some time setting the scenes and getting the characters developed...coming up next week will finally be the good natured showdown between Kris and Ryan...it is short - but i think it turned out well..have to edit it and tweak it but i've run out of time this week before i head out..glad you liked it!

dedicated to exposing potential hoaxers, I have learned that it is

read on several sites that most who make such bold claims are actually
happy to prove themselves genuine due to the vast amount of hoaxers out
there.
This is especially true of Rangers involved with
Operation Gothic Serpent as I have learned by contacting a forum run
and used by Rangers who participated in said. There are a lot of fakers out there.
The info is out there for anyone willing to search. I invite anyone as curious as I was about our friend Scourge to do so.
Bottom line, Scourge can you offer any proof of what you say being
true? If so I sincerely apologize and thank you for your service to our
country. As I have learned it should be fairly simple to do so. You
should understand I would hope. You should also know of the potential
penalties under Federal law hoaxers face due to the seriousness real
Vets give this subject, so I would imagine you won't be too offended.
Thanks! And an additional follow-up: There are several seemingly inaccurate statements in the above post:
Chalk One was part of the initial assault and was stationed at the northeast corner of the target house.
The Rangers in this operation were from Bravo Company of the 75th Ranger Regiment, not the 10th Mountain division.
Indeed, the 10th Mountain does not
include a Ranger Regiment. The unit of the 10th that participated in
the Battle of Mogadishu was the 2-14th Infantry quick reaction force.
Maybe I'm all wet, but these are facts.
Please, prove me wrong! I'll gladly admit it!

Mikeclr is correct – there are a lot of fakers out there – I have no problem with people questioning my service – it goes with the territory. All the SF communities have a problem with fakers – seems the SEALs and Delta especially. While not technically illegal – claiming to be a member of a SF community is covered under the 1st Amendment. What the Stolen Valor Act of 2005 refers to is if a person attempts to gain benefits or wear or receive medals not awarded. Used to cover the CMH only but was expanded to include any medal or service device authorized by Congress. The law prevents people from gaining medals and claiming certain benefits under law and getting preferential treatment in hiring, business loans, etc. Have not been that many prosecutions over the years – most just cease – although Admiral Boorda was supposed to have committed suicide because he wore awards not received.
Mikeclr questions were well written and I applaud his incentive. However he did miss a few facts. I never said that I was part of the initial assault – seems he missed that. Perhaps a little too excited to call BS? Check all the facts as stated – if you are going to question get all facts straight. My chalk was part of the retrieval efforts and yes I was part of chalk one. In the pursuit of brevity – I mentioned that I was part of the 10th Mountain – I misspoke (misstyped?) and should have mentioned that I was with the 2-14 out of Ft Drum of the 10th Mnt. At the time I was a Ranger-tabbed soldier not serving in a Ranger batt. Not all Rangers serve in Ranger batts only. This is a common misconception of leg soldiers and those who always claim BS of anyone who has done something beyond their scope of reference.
From the US Army Uniform Regs: The Ranger Tab is a service school military decoration of the United States Army signifying completion of the 61-day long U.S. Army Ranger School course in small-unit infantry combat tactics in woodland, mountain, and swamp operations.
Those graduating from Ranger School are presented with the Ranger Tab, which is worn on the upper shoulder of the left sleeve of a military uniform, as specified in Army Regulation 670–1, " Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia." Wearing the tab is permitted for the remainder of a soldier's military career, even if the soldier is not actively assigned to an Army Ranger unit.
I also wear the Sapper tab.

The fight scene was well done. Fighting with your standard knife in its sheath is not a bad way to train if you are unable to obtain a good copy of your knife in trainier form. I enjoy sparring with several of my friends and no matter who gets tossed to the mat the most or choked out - we are still friends. You only get better by training with people that are better or at least as good as you are. By sparring with each other we get to know each others strengths and weaknesses. Makes us a tighter unit in the field.

The hard part of this kind of training is not injuring your sparing partners. My karate Sensei was sparring with his top student who has trained with him for over 25 years and Sensei accidentally broke three of his student’s ribs. Our Karate Dojo teaches Okinawan, Korean and Japanese Karate and it sucks when you injure a friend. That and it sucks when you get called on the mat by the 1st SGT for injuring a fellow soldier and the dreaded paperwork to follow. “Well you see Top, I was doing a flying roundhouse heel kick and did not pull it enough and fractured Joe’s jaw;” does not fly with the command. I do like the fact that Dan has used several different weapons. You think there would be more G3s, FNFALs, HK91s, CETMEs (cheap Latin G3 clone) etc floating around. I came across a Chinese-contract Inglis Browning Hi Power in near mint condition this weekend at the gun show – instant drool factor!! Too bad it costs as much as a mid-size sedan. According to the provenance papers some Canadian missionary brought it back from China in the early ‘50s – praise the Lord and pass the ammo – eh?

I try to keep the weapons part of the story going and interesting...glad you liked it...i've seen some guns at shows that i too have drooled over and realized i would never own..a real Thompson for one...$6000 in mint condition and a class 3 licence....plus tons of others..really want a desert eagle MKXIX in .44 mag - but $1000+ for one handgun is out of my reach... (sigh)

Oh I agree 100%. I was just joking. I think I read some of your writing before I joined awhile back. If I remember it was damn good and you depicted the older Ryan Cawdor very well.(if he were older that is) I have read some older and some newer books and find that the characters are not the same in their personalities,speech and descriptions. |

just as an update if anyone remembers....i took out the text for my own copywrite security...the story has morphed way beyond what i had here...i'm up to 60+ pages of single space...probably the equivalent of 3/4 of a full book..i plan on getting to 100 pages and finishing the story in the next year..and then possibly pithching to GE..i've tried to keep the original spirit of the characters alive with some twists...evev i'm happy with the results so far...writing this has not been easy...we'll see where it leads me. is anyone even in here anymore?  |
