Jak Lauren was the leader of a group of Rebels trying to overthrow Baron Tourment and gain control of the ruins of West Lowellton.

He appears to be a young man of nineteen, but is in reality, only fourteen. He is an albino, and quite short. He is very lean but well muscled. His face is thin and pinched, appearing to be malnourished. His nose is narrow and has a crooked scar across it. Another scar is on the left cheek, tugging the corner of his mouth upwards into a crooked smile. His hair is a tumbling mane of the purest white, like fine silk.

He is probably the best martial artist in all of the Deathlands, quicksilver fast, deadly to the extreme. His aim with his throwing knives is impeccable, but isn’t a very good shot with a handgun.

He is known as ‘The White Wolf’ in the swamps. He also gained the nickname Whitey from Ryan Cawdor. He also hates to be called ‘Kid.’ He tries to control his emotions behind a wall of iron, but did shed tears when he found the corpse of his father. He was ready to fight Ryan Cawdor to the death in order to get Baron Tourment. In the end, with Ryan’s help, he got his revenge.

He loved his father and took his passing really hard. But, for a boy of his young age, he has grown quite used to heart ache and loss, so he gets over his grief quickly.

One of the things that his father taught to him was the Getteysburg address. It was a tradition, handed down from generation to generation.

He talks in short clipped sentences, skipping over the occasional word. However, when he does talk, he tends to curse a great deal. Jak has a wicked sense of humour and it has reared it's head numerous times throughout the series, more often than not getting him into trouble.

He is brave and not afraid of anyone, except possibly for snakes. He will never back down from a challenge and is always more than willing to show off his skill with his throwing knives, martial arts, or athletics. More often than not he has met a challenge with violence. The boy really does have a pretty bad temper.

When Jak was ten, he got drunk for the first time while he and his father were ‘burrowing’, hunting the ruins for salvageable goods in the ruins of West Lowellton.

It is in a Redoubt in Oregon that Jak obtains a long collapsible spear from a dead mutie.

Jak also used to use Jolt. Ryan Cawdor forced him to quit the habit if he wanted to continue travelling with the band. Faced with the possibility of abandonment, he gives up the habit.

In Pony Soldiers Jak finally loses his virginity to the beautiful daughter of Cuchillo Oro, chief of the New Mexico Apaches. She has fallen for him and he feels something, possibly love for her.

The longer he travelled with Ryan, the closer he grew to the one eyed man. He actually considers Ryan to be a 'surrogate' father to him now.

At the beginning of Latitude Zero, Jak meets a woman named Christina. He discovered that he has fallen for this tough, rugged woman and by the end of the book decided to leave the band and go live with her, and raise a family.

He is reunited with Ryan and meets his son Dean for the first time in Dark Carnival. When Dean is captured by Slavers in Chill Factor, Jak tries to go with Ryan to rescue the boy, but is injured and has to return to New Mexico.

Once back in New Mexico, his homestead is destroyed when a group of plaugers arrive. Christina blames Ryan for all that happens and will never forgive him for nearly losing Jak to a stickie attack a few days after the destruction of the homestead. About two months later their daughter, Jenny is born.

The spend several more months in peace and quite until the arrival of Ryan and the others. After spending several days everyone except for Christina and Michael Brothers go hunting. When they return they discover that a band of Marauders stopped by and ended not only raping and killing Christina, but Jak's baby girl as well. They spend several days on the trail after the General and his men to get revenge. Jak Leaves his homestead and rejoins the group after burying his dead family.

Even though Michael blamed himself for the deaths, Jak never did blame him, and forgives the young man over his grave along side Christina and Jenny.
