Yes, I am. I also copy edited a fair number of the earlier Outlanders books, and they are very exciting reads.

Agreed, Outlanders is an excellent series. Be aware, though, that it is a very different kind of series with a very different style. Where Deathlands is a warrior survivalist series, Outlanders is all about high adventure with a science fiction bent. Although Outlanders is set 100 years after Deathlands, the two series really have very little in common aside from the use of the same redoubts and mat-trans system. One strong point of Outlanders is that it has very strong continuity, and the characters actually do gradually evolve and change over time. This is because there was a single primary writer for the vast majority of the first 45 books. Although the original author is no longer writing the series, in the past dozen or so books published there has been two authors who have worked very closely with each other to maintain continuity.

Outlanders is my favorite series. I recommend reading them in order, at least for the first 26 books, but there is enough series recap provided in the novels where you can get a gist of what events might have occurred in any books you might miss.
There is an overall storyline to go along with the books on their own, which is why your best experience is to read them in order.

After book 26, there are other writers that contribute to the series from time to time, so the overall storyline is contained in the books written by the original writer and creator of the series. This overall storyline comes to a conclusion with the book Dark Goddess. You can see who wrote what books in the book listings on this site, as well as read reviews on them.
    Hope that helps.

Having read nearly all of them myself my recommendation would be to check the author listings on this site and go with the ones by Mark Ellis.

They are far and wide the best of the series, which goes to figure since he created it!

I think the original writer and creator of the series is named Mark Ellis or something.

You could ask him what his favorite Outlanders novels are.

You can find the new ones, of course, but older copies are kind of hard to find (same with DL books) - usually all you can get are the books no one wants to read.

    Or something.

The original writer and creator (that's me, Mark Ellis ) does have a few favorites. They are, in no particular ranking of favortism:

Savage Sun, Omega Path, Parallax Red, Iceblood, Armageddon Axis, Hell Rising, Doom Dynasty, Tigers of Heaven, Tomb of Time, Talon and Fang, Children of the Serpent, Cerberus Storm and Skull Throne.

(Not sure why the link didn't work in his post, I tried to edit it there to make it click-able, but it didn't work. Weird.)

Very helpful read, I was wondering why on graphic audios web page they listed DL as Post Apocalypse and Outlanders as Sci-Fi. Also glad to hear there continued from book to book. The only down side for me is as I listen to the audio books, Outlanders are at all truck stops for the most part, but for every outlanders book, theres 20 DL books, so might be hard to collect them in order

Very helpful read, I was wondering why on graphic audios web page they listed DL as Post Apocalypse and Outlanders as Sci-Fi.
Because the primary focus of Deathlands is it being about a group of warrior survivalists making their way through a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

On the other hand Outlanders, while set in the same world, takes place 100 years further in the future and the primary focus is high adventure with a strong element of science fiction. The nuclear apocalypse plays virtually no role in the stories aside from being distant background.

As I said somewhere once before, describing Outlanders as a post-apocalyptic series would be like describing Deathlands as a post-Civil War series. While technically true, the event described is so distant in the story's past that it has no relevant meaning.

I briefly discuss the genesis of the Outlanders series here, if you want to give it a listen.
