Wretched Earth has restored my faith in Deathlands. I had just about given up and was wondering why I was reading such trash. Then I decided one more time and things got good again.

I give it 8 out of 10 stars. It was pretty good.

For you fans out there liking this latest book, why are you not writing reviews?

Humble apologies Maximus...my copy arrived at my house while I was out of town. Haven't had the pleasure of reading it, but I am encouraged and will jump in right away.

My book has turned up. All hail Royal Mail. Can't believe you've founnd one already. That's nut's.
Seem's good so far.

Curious to see how fans take this one in. Although it is far, far, farrrrrr better than Palaces of Poop, I couldn't help but feel that it didn't reach the greatness that Chuck Rogers has done with his twin entries. But I truly like Victor Milan's work, and I hope for an even bigger and better DL in his next upcoming entry, which sounds even better in scope than this one.

Finished it this morning, was good. A few mention's of previous book's was good. Ryan kept on saying "Ace" a lot. A 7 star book IMHO. The Rottie's were good. I think they make another appearence in the future.

Yeah, I agree with your rating and assessment. It was above average, but had potential to be one of those storylines that could've really blew fans away.

But at least it wasn't a piece of crap like the previous one.

Oops, it was Haven's Blight I found used. I grabbed Wretched Earth at B&N. Still odd... that's the first recent book (i.e., less than 2-3 years old) that I've seen there.

As soon as I'm done with the book I'm currently reading, I'll crack open WE and give it a try.

I am about 1/3 of the way through this one and have to say that this is so far the best book victor Milan has written in the DL series.

a few small niggles, the first of which I think has been mentioned here before, is just why Mildred has never once said that the "roties"are the same as the zombies of horror fiction from her time?

Secondly Doc says he remembers Eddy Rickenbacker (WW1 flying ace) saying something to him about flying (not got the book to hand and cant recall just what) but as Doc was trawled in Nov1896 when Eddy R was six years old and powered flight was still several years off this event could never have happened. Eddy R was only introduced to flying in 1917 and only originally as a mechanic due to his automobile knowledge...

Still a damn good book so far and many, many times better thanthe last DL joke.

I haven't bought this yet, as I am still traumatized from the last new novel POL, I mean POS. And I can't bring myself to spend the $7 for a new book until the memories fade away...

 

Well that and I am still reading through my back log of E-bay/Amazon shipments. However I am looking forward to picking this one up.

I don't know if any of you realize it but zombies have been brought up before in the DL saga, as far back as the book Skydark. Not in such detail but I was keen to notice them being brought up in passing by Mr. AP himself.

I thought it was rather interesting.

 

 

Finished a couple of days ago...i give it a 7. Compared to the last one...well we've beat up on that one enough. I thought Wretched Earth was "pretty good", not on par with Chuck Rogers, but pretty good. I could and did put it down a few times, but the good news was I didn't regret reading it when i was done. I agree it was a well thought story and the dialog was plausable. The companions were not performing their usual super human combat but it was pretty good combat. I liked the continuity between Rotties and "those pigs up on Canada" - that tells me at least one DL author is reading other DL books. Yeah! I would have liked to see more humor. I liked the Prions explanation for what was automating the rotties and I liked how Milan solved the problem and saved Deathlands from total destruction. Or did he....

Nah I would bet the farm that the "Rottie Queen" will return.

You're right about Eddy, Jim. I dropped the ball on that one and should have done the math. Thanks for pointing that out. It will help, hopefully, to ensure I check those types of things out in future.
