To my recollection, Eclipse at Noon was the first time that Magus actually appeared as a character in the series. He had been mentioned in passing several times before, but only as tall tales and myths.

As Ron states Eclipse at noon was the first (and only) LJ book to feature the Magus as a main character. He was mentioned several times in other books but I can't recall which ones or what was said.

As for LJ changing what JackA had written in PTH that too is unknown as it was a subject that never occured to me to ask about.

I feel the need to read all of LJ's books once more and I will post what I find here. I may actually start taking notes from each of them and see if I can make a more indepth guide to the books. This will all depend on just how much time I get outside of work and family.

My recollection, dim though it may be, is that LJ never mentioned time travel and Magus in the same breath.  It occurred to me as a possibility (or at least as the basis for a hellscape myth) because the bionic technology Magus requires would have been lost after nukeday.  If that was the case, he couldn't be a creation of the DL present; he has to be the product of another time.  Because he's bionic, he could have had a much longer than normal lifespan--he could have been alive since before nukeday.  Or he could have access to other advanced technology, like time travel--he could have come from the past or the future.  Those were the options I saw.  And because I like mysteries I left the issue unresolved.

I enjoyed The Magus and would love to see him pop up once in a while as long as he isn't over-used. I see him as the "Professor Moriarty" of Deathlands.

I think an all out battle head to head with Magnus would be cool..and have him die in a very silly way that would piss him off...like coat him in degreaser so that he joints don't work or something..and then spray him with water and leave him out in the sun to rust...slow sad death!

this is to Diablo....  there is a book about a stickie with the will to live as strong as the Gangs.. and now for the life of me I am drawing a blank on the book title..  Ryan and Krysty get kidnapped by a gang of stickies led by a stickie that is smart, educated and has a past history with Ryan and J.B.  I could always run downstairs to find the title out but I will let somone else rack their brain.. ok nah I just looked through the archives.. Its MOON FATE...

Magus upon some reflection reminds me of the terminator only worse. He can't be bargined with, reasoned and to boot likes to use stickes and poison gas. He is one creature that is interesting to read. He gives me the willies and I just have a visceral feeling of seeing dead.. He is is a pure psycopathic personality.

I like the fact that little is known about Magus, it allows the authors almost infinite possibilities... my question is what if he were to find Delphi's redoubt full of cybernetic bodyparts and completely repair/ upgrade himself? The chance to become a "real boy" ya know. lol
But seriously, we're talking Super Magus here!

I like the way ur thinkin Sun.If Magus did run across said redoubt with parts for him then who chould stop him?And what if these new parts gave him controll over hunter droids and such.Yea a "Super Magus"

I hadn't even thought about those ramifications... but the storyline would have to somehow involve Doc going crazy thinking he saw Delphi/ knowing that some terrible deed could be none other than Delphi's work, Ryan being pissed cause he "knows for radblasted sure that Delphi is dead" etc... great battle sequences though, Magus could actually stand and fight maybe? Unlike his usual M.O.

All in all a great villain, he makes me want to jump through a page and unload a boat load of shells into him. Thank you for appreciating my point of view.

I've not read a lot of the older books as I only came on the DL series about a year back. the magus sounds like a real nasty kind of enemy for the group to be hunted by book after book.

It may take 3 books to pull off a "Super Magus" storyline skull.But it could happen kinda like this.....1st book Magus finds said redoubt and bulksup.2nd book finds Magus goin after Ryans home.3rd book has Ryan fightin Magus to the death.{winks}
