Ok having heard most of the first 33 books, Ive noticed a few things that Mr James seems to like..

    1. Tall people, he really likes tall people, from 6' 16 year old girls to barons, from sec men to strangers, he likes tall people..

    2. He LOVES nightmares, on bad mat-trans jumps, he will describe for hours every single members bad dreams (audio book wise 1 1/2 cds sometimes not a fan of the looong nightmare descriptions)

    3. Ryan and co. never seem to "get it" I'll be listening, and clearly see whats gonna happen, but they never seem to get it til the last second (for example when they goto Washington DC and the things the Baron says makes it obvious he collects human muties for his collection, it takes them awhile to figure out they want Emma) On that note, Emma (The Doomie) would have made a great character too bad they killed her, for a few books anyway.

    4. Kristy Roth never quite "sees" anything when its important, when it matters she cant quite see anything, she simply feels somethings up (like someone hiding around the corner) otherwise shes pretty accurate.

    5. He has a great feel to his books, it feels like a western exploration style to them that is very enjoyable.

    6. He has a great way of describing things (sometimes too great)

    7. I have a love/hate feeling about Doc.. Hes a bumbling annoying fool most of the time (it takes him forever to say what the hell hes trying to say) but he adds a cool element to the group, not sure if I want to see him dead or not yet

I love this series so far, always love the post nuke movies like mad max and such.  Ive been hooked on it for weeks, and cant stop listening to them.

I like Doc when he is lucid, he is rather amusing. But he gets on my t£££ when he is off on one off his ramblings.

Good points all, but you missed one (maybe it's a little harder to catch in the audiobooks vs. the paper books): He loves to recycle material. Seriously.

Harry Stanton (Seedling) and Baron Nelson Mandeville (Cold Asylum) could be identical twins, right down to their propensity to collect things.

Christina Ballinger (Jak's wife) had one leg shorter than the other; to compensate, she wore a built-up boot on that leg. In Trader Redux, Ryan, JB, and Trader are ambushed by two men and their father on the road south of Seattle; the father has the same boot.

There are many, many more examples; I'm just having a brain fart right now.

Oh, and James used to write westerns, so that accounts for the "western" feel of his books - he based a lot of his material on westerns and comic books. It's been mentioned a few times in the forums.

I read a lot of them years ago, then quit around 2000 when the series took a nosedive in quality. After I started up again, I reread all the ones I had, as well as any new ones I get, so I can write a summary for the wiki. I have good reading retention to start with, and reading many of them close together serves to make the connections more obvious.
