DeathLands is a very much a mens action/sci/fi series that does appeal to MEN WHO USE/LOVE/OWN GUN'S,as well as others who don't.

How do you rationalise this statement ?

Why should DL appeal to gun fans, after all guns make up about 5% (if that) of the total volume of a DL tale. Now if the subject of guns took up 80% of the total I would have to agree with you.

I don't see people here posting about the inconsistancies of the clothes the crew wear, how they have lasted for so damn long without falling to pieces, nor do I see a vast number of people posting about how the engine blocks on many of these vehicles that are still in use almost 200 years after there last service are still going strong ? Bottom line is that 99% of DL readers DON'T CARE about the guns, the clothes the cars all they want is a story to keep them entertained whilst they sit on the john taking a shit or waiting for the next load to be hooked up to there trailer.

All I see here are a group of little boys outside in the school yard who want to show off just how much they know about there favorite subject whilst pretending to be something they most likely are not ?

OK I know I'm going to get jumped on for that last comment but I say to you all PROVE IT and prove it in such a way that there is undesputed truth that you do what you do. If you do then I will shut up and put up, but I guess I'm going to be the winner here.

Whatever.

I actually am not being defensive and for some reason you guy's are not hearing me say that I GET IT.You do not like guns.Fine.I really do not care.
I think my response to his post was legit Ron,sorry you don't.
You did not really have to remind me that it is your site.I am well aware of it.
You are telling me not to be defensive or take it personally, but how would you feel if the site owner himseldf reprimands you or chastises you because you made a post that was not demeaning or insulting to anyone.
If it were not for the few really cool people I have as friends here I would walk away from here now as I really do not want to deal with this BS.
Is it possible that you  could just simply let me get back to enjoying this site like I have been for a few months without making me feel like a kid in a classroom being scolded by his teacher? If not you don't have to ban me.I will gladly leave of my own free will.

Whoa a minute. If I can not say what is on my mind w/out getting told I am being defensive. Please tell me how I should respond to this guy here Ron?

Death L Rogue,I in no way said anything that should have caused you to just insult me or my friends like you just did.

For your information I am a 37 yr old man son.Not a boy.My buddy Scourge is a 42 yr old Special Forces vet who has seen action and been wounded 2x.He has been to Panama,Somalia,Iraq, and Afganistan. And lost his best friend there as well!No body has said or done anything to make you feel unwelcome or warrant this little attack of yours on me.
If by being the "winner" here you mean you are the biggest A-Hole.Yeah,you definetly win.

Okay here is an easy way to end this.

What do You all want to talk about?I am open to anything DL wise.

This is supposed to be about #87 Desolation crossing correct Ron?

I will go first.
I think it was a decent read but by no means the best Dl book.I had issues with the guns(sorry) and the lack of characterization.I did like JB having a backstory though.
(Dan hit me on my e-mail if you want to stay in touch)Andy,Scourge,Dan,Jim,thanks for being pals.I had fun here for awhile and really enjoyed your "friendship".I am now getting alot of grief for no reason so I am done.I really wanted to finish that story Dan.I don't care for the politics around here and I am not good at swallowing crap either.

If you had been a member here even 2 years ago those were the kind of discussions we had here...also about why and how a European feudal system could take hold in the US in under 100 years, discussions about genetics and how the kind of cryonics in the LJ books couldn't possibly work and why all those redoubts were built and how mat-trans units operated.

Those were the most common discussions...the guns the characters used were viewed mainly as props nothing more. The other stuff was much more important to not just DL but Outlanders.

DR made mention of something and I feel I have to mention it as well, that being the possibility of someone stating they are possibly something they are not.

In particular I have to ask about the "elephant in the room", namely "Scourge".

Scourge, the posts you have made regarding your service are truly bold and would indicate someone who has devoted their life to defending freedom and sacrificed greatly for the safety and well-being of all Americans. I salute such service and offer my sincerest thanks to those who have indeed served.

My question is how do we know you are not a hoaxer? Such occurrences are common and widespread. It's even happened here, on this very website, with a member who for a long time posted that he was a Federal law enforcement agent.

Having done a bit of research into the subject of hoaxing, the Stolen Valor Act of 2005, and Ranger posers and also contacting an association dedicated to exposing potential hoaxers, I have learned that it is actually easy to substantiate such information as fact. I have actually read on several sites that most who make such bold claims are actually happy to prove themselves genuine due to the vast amount of hoaxers out there.

This is especially true of Rangers involved with Operation Gothic Serpent as I have learned by contacting a forum run and used by Rangers who participated in said.  There are a lot of fakers out there.

The info is out there for anyone willing to search. I invite anyone as curious as I was about our friend Scourge to do so.

Bottom line, Scourge can you offer any proof of what you say being true? If so I sincerely apologize and thank you for your service to our country. As I have learned it should be fairly simple to do so. You should understand I would hope.  You should also know of the potential penalties under Federal law hoaxers face due to the seriousness real Vets give this subject, so I would imagine you won't be too offended.

Thanks!

Mike I expected to come back here to find myself either banned or flamed to the point of being crispy for the comments I made yesterday but strangely its gone very quiet here.
Do I see something in this that members one eyed vengance (not <!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 <!-- /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:EN-GB;} @page Section1 {size:612.0pt 792.0pt; margin:72.0pt 90.0pt 72.0pt 90.0pt; mso-header-margin:36.0pt; mso-footer-margin:36.0pt; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --> <!--[if gte mso 10]> vengeance I notice) and  Scourge are a lot less than they are or one in the same person ?

Would it be wrong of me to start such topics again ? I'm new to the series only starting to read them at cannibal moon so have missed outon all these things? Would people here be intersted in talking about these things?

I have no interest in guns and like Ron (the site owner I guess) said i can just about thell the difference between a rifle and a shotgun a pistol and a revolver. I like the idea of having private groups for members to start and join so they can keep the things they want to talk about away from the front end of the site. i mite start one to discuse the tech of deathlands and outlands which i also only started to read after picking up the first six books, minus book 3 from a thrift shop last year. the writing in these books is much better than what I've seen in the deathlands books.
I dont thing its the same writer a sthe style and pace is so different?
sorry to rant on here but its my first real post and ive got so much to say.

Heck no! Start topics on anything that interests you, by all means.  The way to make the site interesting is to post about things that interest you.  Odds are, there is someone else interested as well.

Ron, I am very disappointed here... How is it that OEV can be so harshly talked to by at least 2 people, namely DR, and nothing is said to the true instigator of said discussion? I am not trying to talk shit to you man, you are more than probably the coolest Mod on the net, but I mean... c'mon! This guy shows up, does nothing but heckle anyone for 4 out of 5 of his posts, but everyone seems to greet him with open arms! Sure, OEV was a bit of a hothead, and yes, we did kinda slam the forum with gun talk... but we were defininetly long-term users here, not fly-by-night hecklers... I will certainly try not to flame anyone, but I just lost a good friend and I am a little pissed... I understand that you are trying to turn this site into something bigger, but by allowing one person force 3 or 4 people out of the forums, your plan seems to be backfiring... I am sorry if I have offended you Ron, I do truly enjoy your site and hope to again in the future...

Apparently I missed something. OEV was not forced out, and he certainly took my post yesterday way more personally than it was intended or presented. He is more than welcome to continue posting here.

How has the newbie Deathlands rogue "forced" 3 or 4 people off the board ? He made some valid points and just questioned the authenticity of a single members claim –that’s it.

He asked a valid question about WHY the books should appeal to gun fans when guns played such a small part of the whole in each tale. He wasn’t rude, didn’t use foul or inappropriate language and kept his post short and to the point.

Can I ask what “long term members” are you refereeing to here? Do you mean those people who joined the board about 4 months (in Scourge case) and 1 month ( in case of OEV) ago ?

If that’s long term then I’m a dinosaur !

I was in Chalk one and was part of the relief and retrieval group. My company was not selected for the initial assault but we got to try to rescue our brothers. I was still a Specialist then – a Ranger with the 10th Mountain.

There are several seemingly inaccurate statements in the above post:

Chalk One was part of the initial assault and was stationed at the northeast corner of the target house.

The Rangers in this operation were from Bravo Company of the 75th Ranger Regiment, not the 10th Mountain division.

Indeed, the 10th Mountain does not include a Ranger Regiment.  The unit of the 10th that participated in the Battle of Mogadishu was the 2-14th Infantry quick reaction force.

Maybe I'm all wet, but these are facts.

Please, prove me wrong!  I'll gladly admit it!

Ok Ron,in all fairness to you me and even this DL rogue guy.

I did take your posts personal because to me it does seem like you are coming down on me,yet you let DL rogue call us some insulting names and now this guy is even trying to suggest that Scourge and I are the same guy? That is just plain stupid to even Imply. You can see yourself we are coming from differant Ip adresses and have different mailing names so that gay little theory is out.I do not see you saying anything critical to anyone but me.That is personl as far as I am concerned. All that aside Ron I honestly do not wish to be on your bad side and hope we can put all of this besides us.Thanks for the support BTW Andy,I do not think I was a hothead at all however.
Now he is making fun of me because I misspeled Veangeance. That is just being an Immature prick and you all know that.
Also Jim,how can you defend this Rogue guy and say he is not at fault when he pops up as an FNG and insults My friends and I when no one has given him cause to do this?Calling us "A bunch of school boy's pretending we are something we are not" is ok in your book?WTF man, cmon Jim!And for your info I have actually been on here about 8 mons,I quit another name and came back as OEV because of people like YOU and this RAboy and DL rogue FNG.
I like you Jim,but I just lost some respect for you, sorry.
Once and for all for the  record ok:The gun talk got out of hand because our group shut down and that is the only reason.IMO you all owe Scourge a big apology as I happen to know from my own weapons expertise that there is no way in hell he is a phony.
And now Scourge and I are the same guy???C,mon.I am not claiming to be a soldier/vet/delta force or anything else.Just a guy who has some experience readining DL and a lifetime's worth w/guns.
And to the FNG,why don't you make a positive post talking about what you like instead of attacking me and mine?
And to Ron,if you are going to tell me when I am out of line,in all fairness you really should tell DLR that his comments that were insulting("a bunch of school boy's pretending to be something they are not"(geez c'mon!)
BTW DL Rogue, what are you wanting me to prove and what kind of proof do you require?Do you want me to fly to your hometown and show you my guns?Do you want me to mail you some brass casings,Write an essay?what exactly? And how dare you say to me I am less than what I clame to be?I am not claiming to be anything!!!

Yup, it is accurate to state that the increase in gun talk on the public forums was a direct result of the private group messaging being broken, and for that I apologize. I don't think anybody did anything wrong (well, aside from me breaking it during an upgrade and not having time to fix it for a few weeks). My intention was not to scold you, and I am sorry if you took it that way.

I tend to have a strong reaction to any kind of "This is America!" or "freedom of speech" arguments, because as I said websites are global and freedom of speech does not exist on a privately run website. I try to be fair (with varying levels of success), but I do find I have to reassert that particular point once or twice per year just so people can understand where I am coming from. It wasn't meant as a knock on you per se, just a general statement of intent that was triggered by your comment.

Well I feel better Ron as I really did feel like I was having my ass chewed unfairly.I was never trying to say that I have the freedom to say whatever I want, just that Mike and DL rogue seemed to be attacking me so yeah,I did naturally become defensive.

I am sorry if you thought I was being rude to you.I really don't care what the others I mentioned think Ron,but I am glad you said you did not mean to offend me and you were not yelling at me.

I guess I will stick around after all.Thanks.

Is there anyway we can just get everyone involved in this little debate to drop it and get back to us all being cool to each other and talking about the books again?
