    Hi,

I'm not only new to this forum (btw - is there a special "Hello, I'm new" thread) but also new to the Deathland series.
In fact I haven't read a single book yet. After discovering the series I wanted to start with #01 Pilgrimage to Hell but as it's only available as 2nd hand book to horrifying prices (at least in germany) I thought maybe I could start with newer ones.

So my question is: Is there some kind of order how and which books belong together?
Like: 1-3 belong together, 4 and 5 are stand alones and 7-10 belonging together again etc.

If this is the fact is there some kind of list where I can get that information and maybe start reading with newer more cheaper ones?

Would be great if anyone her can help me out!

    Thanks a lot

Welcome to JamesAxler.com Tanner, we are happy to have you here.

If you go over to the left hand navigation and click on The Books > Deathlands that will take you to a complete listing of the books in the series. From there you can click on any book to view a detail page with more information about that particular book, including reader reviews.

Generally speaking the first 33 books tend to have a great deal of book-to-book continuity, with major characters coming and going and with the events of each book leading directly into the next. This is because for that period there was a single author writing the series. Beginning with Stoneface, the books began to be written by a rotating stable of authors. Because of that, the books tend to be much more episodic and have almost no direct book-to-book continuity. Some of the stories are grouped into trilogies or duologies, and you can see which ones those are by looking at the detail pages. Those ones will have subtitles like "Book 1 of the Baronies Trilogy". Any of those should be read as a group. Beyond that, you can pick up pretty much any book and read it as a standalone without any trouble at all.

I recommend you look at the reader reviews, as the quality of the books has been pretty scatter shot in the past few years. There are some real gems like Cannibal Moon, and then there are some real clunkers like Strontium Swamp. If you want a truly excellent read, I very much recommend you pick up the two most recent titles, Plague Lords and Dark Resurrection, as they are truly excellent.

LOL...strontium swamp was a new low for the entire brand...LOL....not just the series....I could not find one endearing quality to that rubbish except for the chortle I got from the killer dolphins....trust me that is not a spoiler...more a warning...LOL...no I'm not a newbie...just been away for awhile since the site was rehashed.  I can get a hold of tons of the books here...just depends on what you want to pay for them...obviously the more you ordered the cheaper they could be shipped.  I wouldn't charge you more then cost...LOL I promise.

Thanks, Ron. I just recieved my first Deathlands book on Saturday. It`s "Thunder Road" and I took it just because it was available on german amazon. I don't know if it's a highlight of the series and I have read only about 100 pages till now but I really like it. At least from the setting and the atmosphere it's quite what I was looking (and hoped) for.
For the books to come I will check out the reviews here (if available). There will be definitely more Deathlands books on my shelf, I'm sure

Hey buddy,I assume you are a soldier stationed in Germany? My best friend/cousin was there back in 90-91(Army)Ron is dead on right.I personally think that the first thirty three books(Like he says)are must reads. If you are going to be a Death Lands reader you would be way better off reading them from Pilramige To Hell to at least Stone Face.I took off reading the series for awhile as I could tell it was not the same even though I had no Idea that James Axler was a pen name and the books are written by various authors(producing various levels of of quality)Bro,I know that they are expensive, but I have been reading this book since 1992(my dad had all from "Pilgramige" till then)but I really strongly suggest you read those first 33 over all of the others as they are widely thought by me and alot of other Death Lands fans to be the best and most consistent.(Of course I buy the new one's too as I am addicted to the series and some are decent while others are great)
p.s.I am re-reading all of the books from "Pilgramige to Hell "till "Rat King" as I wait for new books to come out. They are so good(the early ones)that I am reading them again after 17 years and they are still incredible.
