Welcome Powderman, yeah I've listened to a few and they are really good especially the newer ones. I think J.B's voice is a bit odd tho.

I have thought a couple of times about the audio books but always thought they were done with just one person reading them. Am I to understand they have different people doing the characters?
That might be a whole different ball game.

The original audio books by DH Audio were simple read aloud, but the ones that Graphic Audio has been doing for several years now are full audio productions. They are more like radio play adaptations than audio books, with multiple voice actors, sound effects, and music. Graphic Audio really does put out a superior product.

Shaun, the audio books have a prelude that says, "Graphic Audio--a movie in your mind".  This is VERY true.  You can actually picture the action in your mind's eye as it goes along.  Again, I highly recommend them. 

Here's an idea: If you read the novels, pick an episode you like.  Now, go on line with GraphicAudio and buy the audio book.  The first time you listen to it, you'll see the difference.

The very best way to do it is to get an MP3 version, if you have an MP3 player.  That way, you don't have to worry about changing the CD's.

Bro you need to find a job thats not an hr and a half drive.....then you can have the time to sit and read the books.......

 

Now here is a question I've wondered about for quite some time. When you read the books do you, depending where you live, read the text and imagine the characters with an American accent or do you "hear" them in your head with an English -or scotish accent?
Reason I ask is the single GA book I have listened to I didn't like because they all had crazy American accents and I have always "heard" them as being English, especially Doc.

Who is to say that us Brits didn't invade what was left of the US during the nuclear winter and once more take control? This would explain the whole Ville and Baron situation -which is a quasi Medieval European way of living 

Your question as to why I would think that a book set in the US should have characters with American accents reminds me of the original release of Mad Max in the US. Called "Road Warrior" this film, set in Australia with Australian actors was over dubbed into "American" for export  to the USA why, it was after all set in Australia and they should therefore have thick Australian accents?

 Seriously though, what I was asking was aimed at those none American folk who frequent the board, I wondered if they to like me substituted English accents in there own heads when reading. If YOU read an English book set in England where, say, two characters were described as having a thick Devonian accents would you "hear" them speaking this way in your head -even if you had no idea what a Devonian accent sounded like, or would you substitute some sort of American one in its place?

Re: Road Warrior - the American english dub is awful, and always has been. It's like watching a bad chop-socky film, or a Godzilla movie with terrified Japanese people running and screaming, "Look out! It's Godziller!!"

But yeah, if I am reading something british the best I can do is hear extremely broad accents in my head. I can tell a posh accent, probably a very bad idea of a Cockney one, and some degree of Irish and Scottish brogues. Devonian? No idea. I recognize that as a geologic period of time, not so much an accent. So my brain would probably pick Eliza Doolittle's accent from My Fair Lady and go with it.

The accent I hear are those off Graphic Audio I.E American. The only one I think is wrong is J.B.

Well, one of the reasons JB might sound a little off is because the same actors do a multitude of voices.  Most are done quite well--but if you listen closely you can pick them out.  Terrence Aselford (JB) does a whole bunch of different voices.

 Still, the question remains--does anyone have any idea when Dean (Ryan's son) will appear again?  I mean, come on...#100 was left quite open ended.  I won't say anymore, just in case anyone is not familiar with the episode.

With my exposure to British accents limited pretty much to what I've heard on television, I usually hear american accent in my head after a few lines of dialogue of a British character. Occasional inserted words like "mate", "bloody", or "sodding" or whatever will remind me that the characters accent is British, but what I hear in my head reverts back to American before long. 

 

Hopefully Dean will be back fulltime with the gang soon, or as I've said a million times leading his own little gang in a spin off series or maybe Ryan goes six feet under and Dean takes over.

Unless the book is written in an accent like Irvine welsh's Trainspotting or the accent is emphasised or an integral part of the story I only hear the queens English. As things should be.
