I would guess its the return of Dean, he will be around 16 or 17 and the group will all have aged 4 years but look not a jot different than they did in book #99.

I, too, am hoping for the return of Dean. I certainly hope that something monumental will happen in book 100. Unlike Stony Man 100 which was an okay story but certainly nothing Earth shattering. I remember always looking forward to every 25th Destroyer novel because somethng significant to the story line would occur. Perhaps it's time for the death of a character ?

Can't agree with you there I'm affraid. The group as they stand at the moment (without Dean) is perfect for the story formula.

Dean will be coming back sooner or later... one of the editors (Wordsmith Reprise) asked me to update his age on the wiki. It'll probably happen for #100. As for character deaths: Nah. I can't imagine what else they could do that would be momentous, though, given that the series pretty much takes place in a vacuum now. Maybe kill off Magus?

True. But i don't think they would kill Magus. But then again we and the books needs a shake up

They're the only two who have the least amount of tie to the rest of the group. Ryan's the leader, and Krysty's his wife/lover; JB and Mildred have each other; Doc and Jak have no one. Jak's too tough to die, unless he gets blown up or eaten by something. Doc, OTOH, 's getting pretty old, physically - his body has to give out sooner or later, and his knowledge of the Totality Concept is pretty well used up by now. If he kicked off, the group would mourn a bit, say he had a good life and that he's in a better place, and move on.

Doc brings a little difference to the group, he isn't all kill, kill, kill and often brings a more light hearted side to the stories. If anything Jak should be the one to leave as he adds nothing but another gun to the tale. But of all the group Dean is the worst by far. Laurence intended Jak to be a semi regular member of the team and his home to be used as a semi perminant base of ops for them all, sadly the REMF's at GE decided otherwise and made him change his plans. Dean also was not to be a regular, he was to spend at least 20 or 30 books at the Brody School with the team again dropping in to visit and assist. Again GE put pay to that one too.

Yeah, you've got a point - the interplay between Doc and Mildred is amusing at times, whereas Jak's worth lies mostly in his scouting abilities and weapons.
How do you mean Dean's the "worst", though? Sure, he's young, impetuous and inexperienced... but I'll bet this time away from the group will temper him with new experiences. We already know he's 15; that's a world of difference from the 12-year-old he used to be.
LJ overused him, IMO - he got kidnapped or captured, what, three or four times? Granted, that time in Mars Arena was a deus ex machina to return him to the group, but still.

That was Mel Odom's book not LJ. Dean was a perfect crutch for the "Kidnap", "Hostage" story lines, his Dad is the leader of the group and would do anything to save him -oh, except now when he appears to have forgotten he exists !!! I can see it now, Book 100... ...The fog in the Mat-Trans cleared to reveal a young version of Ryan slumped on the floor. "Dad, its me...", a weak voice called. "He sounds head f%&ked, leave him", said Ryan turning away. "Ryan, its your long lost Son" said Krysty looking lovingly into her lovers eyes. "Who, ermm... what Son... ermm Dan", said Ryan, "it's been so long..." "Ah-hum, its Dean, Ryan not Dan", Says Doc looking somewhat confused. "Fireblast Doc I know the name of my own Son, I'm no feeb you know." "I was just saying..." The figure tried to stand but fell back to the floor...

I agree. As much as I like Doc it would be a pivotal event for Book !00. He would be missed but not forgotten. As for Dean, he should come back a very changed young man from the one we knew. I respect that the writers have to tread a fine line between playing it safe and drastically altering the series but I hope they are allowed to shake things up a little.

I doubt it what with the "Cookie cutter" crew they have in charge at GE, each and every book has to start and finish the same way so they can publish them in any order they want to. The only "NEW" thing that will come out of book 100 is the return of Dean... Hot Pipe...

That was Mel Odom's book not LJ. Oops, my bad. Dean was a perfect crutch for the "Kidnap", "Hostage" story lines, his Dad is the leader of the group and would do anything to save him Sure, but how many times can you recycle that storyline? -oh, except now when he appears to have forgotten he exists !!! Heh. He's been gone for, what, 3 years (DL time) now? I think Ryan would've given up the search after a year or so - constantly reminding the reader about the missing son is tiresome and annoying, and Ryan isn't one to dwell on the past. He's tenacious, sure, but even he would have to admit defeat at some point. What gets me is that he hasn't heard even a rumor of his son or Sharona - did they go to Europe or something? I can see it now, Book 100...

Well, in all fairness Deathlands is a mighty big place especially with no more advanced level of communication over distances than traders sharing stories. Personally, I haven't even heard a rumor about my ex wife in years but I don't doubt that she still exists....

This what I love about this forum. The fact that fans can voice their opinions and get feedback from published authors is cool.We don't know what happens behind the GE "wall".But every now and then when things are said,we eat it up.When I say Doc should die,I say that due to the fact I'm tired of hearin about his past every book. You cant kill Jak,he was born in DLs,his skills can't be replaced.I also think that Dean was "shelved" was due to the fact they didn't know what else to do with him.

Ron: True... but you know how stories of Ryan & co managed to spread, and they travel widely. Surely someone would have seen one or the other and noted the resemblance. Or maybe not. *shrug* Diablo: Hehehe. They only do it because they have to - you can't expect the reader to have read any or all of the previous books, so you have to keep reintroducing the characters. It's annoying, I know, but necessary. Your theory about Dean being shelved could well be valid... he's been gone for six years (three in DL time) - far too long for a mere "Oh, he's gone to the store for milk" disappearance. Maybe they just wanted him to gain some age because he was too young, and this was the only way they could do it. It's rather amusing, though, that no one else has aged...
