Good point's guy's. I too liked the way Dean was written, although the book was a wee bit shoddy. Body armour should be a must surely? I think you must be right about Ryan and JB being third generation. I too have a question, how come so many off the Redoubt's are empty? I would have thought at the time of skydark and beyond that these would be ideal bases for survivor's.

Posted By twinsrule26 on 4/7/2013 For my small questions - 1) I have always wondered why the companions have never added body armor to their regular gear. 2) It has been one hundred years since the war how many generations have there been I mean Ryan and JB are nearly 40 years old if their parents were in there 20 when they were born just how many generations have past ? Could their grand parents have been first generation survivors ? In answer to your questions -my two or pennies worth, 1 Why bother? The characters only get shot or hurt when it is required by the story. If the story doesn't require them to get hurt they can walk through a hail of fire unharmed. They would also look too much like sec men or "cold hearts". 2 A generation is said to be 20 to 22 years, so 5 or 6 have passed since skydark in the world of deathlands. Jim

Why are Doc's teeth always referred to as oddly perfect? Are they false?

I guess that: Being only in his thirties (in real terms) Coming from an age without sugary sweets and drinks having access to dentistry -ok 19thC but still better than what is available to the world of DL makes his mouth furniture stand out against the DL crowd. I agree with the commentor before me. Also they point out how Mildred's teeth are really good as well. Which would come from being able to see a dentist on a regular basis. I cannot even imagine not having any dental care, like a tooth brush and floss. I think they do not bring it up more because they do not want, say Krysty, to be thought of as having horrible rotten teeth which would take away from her sex appeal.

I too have wondered why so many of them are empty . My idea on this is that after the war the survivors who knew about the redoubts looted them . We saw in stoneface that the Anthill people were stockpiling supplies those had to come from somewhere . In another book(which I can't recall the name for) it said that the companions just missed someone else who used the Mat-Trans that was rated for off planet jumps. That was the place that they found the hand gun for Donphilmore along with a space suit in a locker.

It is explained in several places that just prior to skydark almost all of the redoubts were evacuated and stripped with the staff and equipment being moved via the gateways to the anthill and other COG bunkers.
That book would be Dectra chain one of my favourite DL books. Although written before the advent of OL it may have been the folk from either Parallax Red (unlikely as it was badly damaged during skydark and mostly abandoned -see DL Paralllax Red) or Cydonia base on Mars (most likely) using that gateway.

Well, Denver Airport is nothing that special, and the area is totally flat. But the outer areas are gorgeous and mountainous. Breathtaking, actually.
Yellowstone is very nice, despite all the fallen and burned trees. Too numerous. Especially worse now because of the recent major fire.
Crater Lake is magnificent.

Was the "Native American" that met the Trader at the end of PTH ever mentioned again. Also I'm guessing the crew of WWW1 never turned up again? Did ABe mention them when he turned up??

Cheers Maximus.
I keep on seeing references in the last three books I've read in the series to a group called the "Farer's" is there any books where they appear centre stage??? The books that mention them are Stoneface, Nightmare Passage and Downrigger Drift.

No, i don't recall a book starring these Farers.
The first two titles you mentioned were written by Mark Ellis, the original author of OL, and the last one was John Helfers, who I think is a very solid author of DL.
