He was taken by someone a lot closer to him than his father
I won't spoil it for you by telling you the full details but do read the book (it scores a massive 1.7 / 10 in the review section here).

iii) Bob Dylan, hey don't worry about it. I've never liked the bloke or his music. It is (in my opinion) all bland and uninspiring.

So what sort of music do you play? Classical I think not from your avatar <!--[if !vml]-->

Yeah, the whole thing with how they handled Dean is a stain.
As is other things that the publishers wish to ignore.

But Deathlands is the longest running post-holocaust series, with multiple writers having come onto the scene for quite a while now.

And certain authors, despite the numerous stains on this series, continue to prove that Deathlands still has long legs, and still have great adventures to be told.

Thanks so much Jim!Haha,no,I do not play classical, although I listen to  Beethoven(my favorite classical musician)I am actually still a very "Heavy Metal" sort of songwriter and Guitarist.I actuallt even toured some and was signed to a record label  in a band called "Full Circle"("Negative", Leviathan Reacords 1995)Been at it since 1991,though I left it all foor 8 yrs, recently back!My new band is "America's Nightmare"(not a political statement)
Yeah,I agree about Bob Dylan.I could have sworn that Jak was 16 in "Emerald Fire"?
I agree about the weapons, characters and clothing never changing being a bit of a problem too.
    Chris Dryer
    p.s.
If you want to hear my music I am on Myspace.com in 4 different bands,as well as they still sell my record at Leviathan records.com(but I do not want you to buy it,as they make a profit and I get shit.)

I agree with everything you say,the last 2 books were decent, but not incredible like the first books written by Laurence James.

Its pretty silly how Ryan and co. dont really care enough to look for him

I wonder where Dean and Ryans former one night stand went anyways.

Dean I would imagine is the type to stubbornly go forth on his own and reseek his former friendds...

possibly meeting some of his own along the way.

How cool would it be if he runs into the Trader and the Legend himself takes Dean under his wing...could be the cause of some tension due to the way Ryan and the Trader rubbed noses a bit the last time they were together.

    Look for who...

Well that appears to be there attitude now as the current host of writers fail to realise that Dean exists.

You can bet that if (and its likely to be a big if) Dean ever does come back he will appear saying "Hot Pipe!" wearing the same clothes he did when he was taken away and look (and act) not a day older. Then within the space of one book it will appear to the group that he has never been away.

I doubt though that he will ever be back, the random publication order of the books would not allow it, you would have him in one book, missing in the next two, back again then gone once more.

    Dean + Deathlands = Continuity

And that cannot be in the world of the GE head sheds.

Not that it will matter to anyone, but Jak is 16.
    Dean will be back.
He will not be the same age.
He will not be wearing the same clothes,
He will no longer say "Hot pipe!"

Any ideas when he will be back -rough ball park figure?

    LOL,

He has a valid point Wordsmith.

The others never age,so why would Dean?

I thought he was 12 and Jak was 16?

I recall that LJ had a 2 year aging take place back in the good ole' days of Continuity.

I remember Ryan started off in Pilgrimage as 35 and when he met Jak he was 14.Later  on Jak was 16 if I recall right?

A Sneak Peek at an instant DL Classic:

Dean was time-trawled to a different universe/different time continuum, where he spent 50 years. Virtually no time has elapsed in DL. When he returns home in the upcoming book he is 20 years older than his father. Dean materializes with his shrewish, half-reptile wife, their eight, quarter-reptile children, and 35 grandchildren. He thinks Ryan and Krysty had to have settled down by now, maybe even established their own barony, and expects to move in with them.

Dean was 12,  almost 13 when he left. Two years will have passed by the time he makes his next appearance, and the other characters will have aged as well.

Jak had to age a couple of years when he was with Christina. We assume that the rest of the group aged as well.

Wait...what? So Jak stopped aging after his wife died? Dean aged and he didn't? Dean is now only a year younger than Jak?

    The mind boggles...

Everyone will have aged two years. Mike, you don't want a 70 year old Bolan, and no one wants a 60 year old Ryan. Hold the jokes, please.

I don't? Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Wrong! I would prefer the characters aged normally, especially in the Bolan world since you brought it up.

Bolan without Vietnam just isn't the Executioner created by Don Pendleton. Vietnam is as much a part of Bolan and critical in his mindset as the events in Pittsfield.

If you make Bolan into some generic special forces veteran you lose the core component in his character, the complex and emotionally charged experience that was unique to the Vietnam conflict.

Never aging, never growing, characters with non-specific pablum as a backstory, disconnects this reader with the characters.

I would rather see Bolan retire and someone else take up the mantle of The Executioner than see him turned into another cookie cutter character...sheesh, if that's what fans like me wanted you might as well just have switched over and continued publishing Dagger or Horn or Nomad or something instead of Mack Bolan...

And Ryan? Who cares? It's set in the future so it's entirely subjective...at least you got that part right...

One of the qualities that made Outlanders stand out is that time passed in the series.

I like OL too, just curious how I should take your post is all?

You should take it the same way you took the discussion about Mack Bolan in the same thread.

    Ignore it.
