Back Cover:

Long Odds

Devastation from the nukewar shattered civilization and left a planet both primitive and ripe for rebirth -- or retaking. If a better life inside the hellground exists, Ryan Cawdor and his friends will find it.

Only a fatal chink in the enemy armor saved planet Earth from plunder. Stay on your own earth or prepare to die
by briley
Breakthrough left us wondering what the intentions of the genetically-engineered warrior Dredda had in mind with Ryan’s seed that was stolen from Krysty. Doom Helix will answer.

This third installment in the trilogy is about the battlesuit-clad she-he warriors returning to Ryan and the companion’s parallel earth with the same intent of mining enough of the nukeglass for ore to fuel another jump. However each time a jump has been made previously the she-hes and their troops have endured foreign organisms infesting their bodies threatening horrific death within their own ranks creating an even more frenetic operation at Ground Zero. Deathlands people are once again being sought for the vicious cycle of being used as slaves pushed until they can give no more and then even in death used again to feed the remaining doomed slaves.

The unscrupulous Big Mike and the loathsome whitecoat Dr. Huth are also back amongst some new characters including a “baron” wielding a flamethrower. Along with some new allies rallying with the Burning Man and fighting alongside the companions the cockroaches with their superior weapons and armor must fight warriors ready to die for their earth.

As expected with Alan Philipson at the helm there is no shortage of unyielding action, grisly deaths and delectable meals as Ryan and company fight to live another day in the Deathlands.

AP, Thank you for all your contributions to this series, you will be missed.

A Loose end neatly tied up.
by hhower15
When I picked up the book from my local store I was excited when I skimmed over that back cover, and realized that one of my favorite sub plots was going to be finished. That of course being the shadow world, and there reality jumping technology. I do not want to go into to much detail about the book or give anything away. I enjoyed it so much that I had read its entirety in one sitting. I was a little disappointed in a few character deaths but I usually am (my favorites always die). All in all I only had a few unimportant gripes about the book nothing to fault the author just purely aesthetic taste.

Thanks for the closure
by Timbermountain
I enjoyed it even if some of the ghost warrior stuff Jak got involved seemed over the top. The action scenes were true to Deathlands, the characters were in character, and I'm a real sucker for a good ending. I really respect the honesty between Ryan and Krysty in this saga. Great job!

Final battle in the nuke-glass
by The Phantom
Here we have the third and final story in the Shadow World trilogy. The scene returns years later to the glass wasteland of the Salt Lake city area. The invaders have returned again, back to mine the ore and enslaving deathlanders once again. This time Ryan and crew are not among the slave miners, this time they are some distance away, and eventually learn of the invaders return. This book deals with the group’s return to the nukeglass to get rid of the invaders once and for all.
So, what happened to Connors from the first book after he went off on his own? This book reveals his fate and is one of the more interesting factors in this story. We also find that Big Mike has more of a role in this adventure. And the women in battlesuits have returned with a new leader, thus revealing another plot thread left from the last book. Surprises abound as the book unfolds and the action and intensity ramps up more and more to the very last page of this excellently written novel.
As with the other two books, Doom Helix is another dark and gruesome story, with otherworldy high tech elements, to go along with the usual dangers of Deathlands. Action, suspense, mystery, adventure are crammed into this book and all loose ends are neatly tied up by the end. The only bad part is we won’t be seeing any more books in the series from this awesome writer.
