Grim Forbearance

The fate of humanity remains ever uncertain, dictated by the obscure forces that have commandeered mankind’s destiny for thousands of years. The plenipotentiaries of these ancient oppressors – the nine barons who have controlled America in the two hundred years since the nukecaust – are now falling prey to their own rabid desire for power. Their imposed doom is aided by a handful of intrepid men and women in a bitter fight to destroy the self-proclaimed new humans and deliver humanity from the yoke of the interminable slavery...

Forbidding Fortune

In what was once the Pacific, the internecine baronial war rages on. Kane, Grant and Brigid wreak their own brand of destruction, inadvertently leading invading forces to the island of New Edo, a lost world that echoes the violent, honor-ruled ways of feudal Japan. Amidst this war within a war, a shocking new twist emerges in the blueprint to control the future. Kane and his companions will become victims of a mysterious power play by alien dictators unleashing their abominable plan to claim earth.

Action on Thunder Isle
by The Phantom
The action continues with the battle at the samurai palace, including Brigid's cool swordfight with Yoshika. The final book in the Imperator Wars trilogy kicks off with lots of action. The Tigers of Heaven portion of the story is eventualy wrapped up and Kane's focus turns to his new enemy, Ramirez. With the fate of Domi a mystery and presumed dead, Kane and his friends pursue Ramirez to a mysterious place called Thunder Isle. This was a really cool part of the story, and the scenes taking place there were written very well. The return of Domi was totaly incredible. The book concludes with an amazing reunion with Lakesh and exciting escape from the Imperator. The main characters that drive this series continue to develop, and adds to the depth of these very human heroes as they take on the strange forces that challenge them.

The one thing that nagged me about this book was the amount of rehashed material. Heads up to readers, chapters one, thirteen, and fourteen can be skipped in their entirety, as they are reprinted from earlier in the trilogy.
Overall, I thought the Imperator Wars trilogy was even better than the other OL trilogy called the Lost Earth Saga. The first two books in this trilogy were a hard act to follow, but still Purgatory Road held it's own and was an entertaining novel.

Purgatory Road
by BJM
Purgatory Road as usual was hard to put down and from the opening pages drew me in, grasped me tight and pulled me along for the ride. This was one wild ride I did not mind taking. With so many questions left unanswered among all that has been resolved as this novel closes, I for one was left salavating for more. The last third of this latest Outlanders story was comprised of some of the most interesting and thought provoking chapters in this masterfully written series. With so many doors left open to exploration and the ranks of villians, each more dangerous than the last, growing with each new novel I'm left to wonder whats next. Knowing this authur and having come to greatly enjoy this series, I have no doubt I will not be disappointed. Another well written novel, that I highly recommend!!

Even more questions to be answered
by Outlanders
Purgatory Road is all you would expect from Mark Ellis.

Heavy action, great plots, details on the how's and why's.

It picks up in the middle of the fight that was taking place between the Tigers of Heaven and the Black Dragons on the Isle of New Edo. Once the battle has been waged, a force of Magistrates led by Ramirez attempt to land on the shores.

The results are, as you would expect.

The book goes into a lot of rehashing of information that has been explained previously, but that in itself is not a bad thing. It gives many of the new readers (and the series is gaining more and more all the time) all the background data they would need to understand what is happening up to that point.

The reader is also left wondering what is going to happen to Lakesh, now that he's regained his youth and vigor. What is going to happen to Domi, did she suffer any adverse side effects to the time trawling?

And what of the Isle of Thunder? Who was behind the time trawling experiments? Where did they go after Kane and the others invaded the facility?

Also, we now have the imperator, Sam. He was blatantly betrayed by Lakesh, and they know the location of Cerberus. What is to become of the redoubt and the other exiles?

What about Cobalt? His ville was under siege at the end of Purgatory Road.

These questions leave the reader wanting more.

Great work, as usual.

IF THIS IS WHAT YOU CAN READ DURING PURGATORY...
by One Eye Chills
...Then it can't be all that bad, right?

This cover rocks, but I still don't think our illustrious artist gave Kane a good face, nor Grant his gigantic size. But good to see them all on the cover for once.

This novel has - as usual - excellent ideas and action galore. Lakesh getting his youth back is just timeless. I'd never would have expected that. Great idea, Mark. Now he can do more.

Too much rehashing though of past history. It bogs down the novel way too much.
